Story
Last year we moved house, leaving behind the vibrant wildlife garden it took us 2 years to create. Recently revisiting the house we were sad to see the most important part of the wildlife-friendly garden was gone - the pond has been filled-in!
Ponds are amazing habitats, supporting a wide range of wildlife. Our tiny garden pond was home to frogs, toads, water snails, water boatmen, water beetles, damselflies, and a place for the garden birds to drink and wash. Yet, sadly, like our garden pond, many ponds have been infilled or drained, leading to the loss of 70% of the ponds across our landscape.
Where we now live the soil is very thin, so digging a new pond will be difficult. So instead I would like to raise money for the conservation charity Froglife to create a pond elsewhere. Large ponds cost between £3,000-£5,000 to create so the money I raise will contribute to making a pond.
To raise the money I will be skipping throughout June, skipping a total of 15,000 times, with a minimum of 500 skips a day. If I reach my goal of £300 I will also top this up to £400 - a good starter on a home for plenty of frogs, toads and newts!
