Story

What is happening?

On Sunday 24th August (August Bank Holiday Weekend) we will be playing a football match in memory of the lives of William Phillip, Darren Hey and Nick Dawson.

A team put together consisting of the friends of Will and Daz, will be playing a rival Brighouse team captained by Nick's brother, Joe.

With Will and Darren both ardent Leeds fans and Nick a supporter of their West Yorkshire rivals, Huddersfield it felt appropriate to use the most tribal of sports, put rivalry aside and support a common cause (with the exception of the 90 minutes on the pitch where both teams are desperate to win!)

Date: 24th August (2PM)

Location: MJL Stadium, Skipton Town AFC, Engine Shed Lane

Why are we doing this?

Will, Daz and Nick were all taken from us too young. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 54 years old but also the impact of a loss by suicide, is a battle in itself for the loved ones left behind.

This event isn't for Will, Daz and Nick but we would like to honour their memory through our goal to raise awareness of Andy's Man Club, hopefully make a small difference in funding and to help them continue their good work and spread their mission:

to prevent other families from going through the heartache and grief caused by suicide, by encouraging men to speak openly about their issues.

What is Andy's Man Club?

ANDYSMANCLUB takes its name from Andrew Roberts, a man who sadly took his own life aged 23 in early 2016.

Elaine Roberts, Andy's mum and Luke Ambler, his Brother-in-Law, together came up with the idea of ANDYSMANCLUB, a group where men aged 18 and above can speak openly about their mental health in a judgment-free, non-clinical environment.

Groups now operate nationwide and are completely volunteer-led, with all group facilitators having first interacted with ANDYSMANCLUB when they came through the door as a service user.

They now have 2,700+ groups each week, 5,800+ weekly attendees and 2,500 volunteers with 1 aim. To help 1 man, to save 1 life.

One of their groups operates less than 100 yards away from Skipton Town's Pitch in Sandylands Sports Centre.
