Story
This is my third attempt at completing the UTS100M in Snowdonia. This time I'm running to try and raise funds to set up a 5K Your Way Cancer Support Group in Skipton
In 2023 I slipped descending Moel Siobod ending up in Bangor A&E resulting in 9 stitches in my knee. At the time I didn't know but I also had an uninvited guest growing in my bladder.
In 2025 I just wasn't fit enough and my race ended in Beddgelert at 75 miles.
2026 I aim to finish the full loop and raise some funds to help set up a 5K Your Way Cancer Support group in Skipton.
Exercise during cancer treatment is essential for improving physical function, reducing fatigue, decreasing anxiety, and mitigating side effects like pain and muscle loss.
Regular activity helps maintain independence and, in some cases, increases survival rates, while also supporting mental well-being and enhancing quality of life.
Despite this the benefits of exercise are not talked about enough during treatment. 5K Your Way helps to address this and give people undergoing treatment a supportive environment to benefit from.
What is 5K Your Way?
5K Your Way is a community-based initiative that encourages those living with and beyond cancer — along with their families, friends, and healthcare professionals — to come together on the last Saturday of each month at their local parkrun to walk, jog, run, cheer, or volunteer.
It’s more than just exercise. It’s about connection, support, and empowerment.
And it works. Research shows that physical activity during and after cancer treatment improves physical and mental well-being and even survival rates. But more than stats, 5K Your Way gives people hope, community, and joy.
Why We're Fundraising
To officially set up a 5K Your Way group at Skipton parkrun, we need to raise £1,000. This will go towards:
Training and onboarding ambassadors (volunteers who lead and support the group)
Marketing and outreach to local cancer centres and hospitals
Branded materials (banners, t-shirts, leaflets)
Ongoing support from the Move Against Cancer charity
Why It Matters
Cancer doesn’t care who you are. But community does.
By donating, you're helping create a safe, supportive space for people in Skipton and surrounding areas who are going through one of life’s toughest battles — and giving them a way to move through it, together.
This isn’t just about a 5K. It’s about dignity. It’s about healing. It’s about life after diagnosis.
