44 Miles for 44 Lives Run · 21 December 2024

Mikeysline is a mental health charity covering the Highlands, Islands and Moray, supporting those in emotional distress. Born in 2015 after the tragic loss of two close friends, the charity strives to support all ages and genders dealing with crisis through text, online and face-to-face.

Story

On average, 44 people a year commit suicide in the Highland Council area. Members of Skye Rugby will be running from Portree to the top of the Quiraing and back, a distance of 44 miles; one mile per life lost to suicide. We’ll be raising money for Mikeysline, a charity and cause we all feel strongly about.

At Mikeysline, our ultimate aim is suicide prevention. We were established in 2015 following the suicides of two close friends within days of each other, Mikey Williamson and Martin Shaw, both aged 23. Our textline service was set up to provide an anonymous, safe, confidential way to access peer support, a listening ear from someone who understands what that person may be feeling, having their own lived experience of mental health issues. We also offer 1:1 support by appointment. Please visit www.mikeysline.co.uk/appointments to book.
