Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Hi everyone,

Thank you for visiting my fund raising page. I appreciate your support and interest in my cause. I am running 57k 35miles ish) for the Stroke Association, a charity that is very dear to me.

Let me share with you why I am doing this. In 2013, my mum had a major stroke at the age of 47. It was a shock and a nightmare for me and my family. She was in ICU for a month, barely conscious, unable to move, speak or eat. We were told she might need a brain surgery, but miraculously, she started to improve on her own. She moved her toe, then her leg, then her arm. She regained some awareness and visiting her in the ward was hard but I remember clearly her first word ( phrase) it was in December: "I want to go home". I felt the pain and frustration in her voice and it killed me to leave her there but I knew that in hospital she has the support she needed from the amazing Dr and Nurses.

It was a long and hard journey, but she made it. She came home for Christmas, the best gift I ever had. She continued to recover with the help of nurses and physios, and with our love and me and my siblings kind nagging and encouragement she started to improve little by little.

She is not the same as before if you involve her mobility and speech but my mums smiles forever there, I am so proud of her. She has achieved so much since the stroke, she turned her Kids outdoor forest school she had been doing for years before in to a business she could carry on being involved with ,with help from my step father her business became a nursey for younger kids , she now works alongside Goodwood helping those with brain injuries have outdoor sessions learning about nature and doing crafts , and she recently did and interview on BBC world at one - Link here starts from 36:40 seconds https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001trny

The Stroke Association helped us a lot during this difficult time. They provided information, advice and support to us and to mum, helping her achieve more then I thought was possible after a stoke this severe .

The Stroke Association are truly incredible the fact in the uk 100,000 people have strokes each year , The stoke Association fund research to prevent and treat strokes, and to improve the lives of stroke survivors. They are doing amazing work, and I want to give something back to them.

That's why I am running 57k (35miles) for them. It's not going to be easy, and I am very nervous but it's nothing compared to what mum went through. or anyone who has been affected like my mum and my family, I want to honour her courage and strength, and to raise awareness and money for this important cause. Every penny counts, so please donate whatever you can. Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.
