Story
On the 12th of May 2024 I will be taking part in the Fred Witton Challenge to raise money for Tommy's.
Tommy's is a charity our family hold in very high regard and is one very close to our hearts. In 2021 my wife and I lost a baby to Edwards Syndrome (Trisomy18) and Tommy's provided us with the information, advice and support we needed to understand and navigate our loss.
The Charity
Tommy's fund pioneering research to identify why pregnancy goes wrong, which in turn helps them to understand how to prevent complications and loss during future pregnancies.
They provide expert, midwife-led advice for parents before, during and after pregnancy. They foster a connected, caring community with the united goal of making pregnancy safer for all, and advocate for and support those who have lost babies.
The Challenge
The Fred Whitton Challenge is a charity event in honour of the late Fred Whitton who was a great advocate for cycle sport in Cumbria and North Lancashire. It is with respect to Fred and his ideals that the event remains just that, ‘a challenge’.
Widley considered to be the hardest one day road event in the UK, the total elevation gain across the 112 mile / 180klm route is 10,400ft / 3170m.
The route includes all of the Lakeland passes: Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott, Wrynose and Blea Tarn, 6 of which are in the top 100 climbs in the UK!
Your Support
Your support would mean the world to our family, and those going through similar experiences, now and in the future and allow Tommy’s to continue their vital work – In short you’re helping save babies' lives, and who doesn't doesn't want to save cute little babies!?
