Story
On Saturday 20th September The World Famous Hammersmith Morris Men will be dancing 10k along the Thames from Vauxhall to the Tower of London crossing every bridge possible on the way in aid of a cause close to home for us, The Listening Place.
We can all feel under pressure at times or experience poor mental health. Sometimes people feel unable to cope. If this happens to ourselves, our friends or our family we all want people to be safe and to be able to get support.
However reliable face-to-face support can be difficult to find in the UK. Dying by suicide is the leading cause of death in men under the age of 50 and in all adults under 35.
The Listening Place meets this need in London by providing free, face-to-face support to those who feel suicidal. And they know that their support works.
Hammersmith Morris Men are a team of about 40 dancers and musicians who get together regularly in West London to practice and perform in public. Some of our team live with mental health conditions. And we have all benefitted from the community and support that the team brings.
We’re not experts in supporting people but the Listening Place are. That’s why we’re doing something fun to raise funds for them.
If you're able to, we'd be grateful if you could sponsor us. Any donation would be very welcome - thank you.
You can also help by turning out to support us on the day - it would be amazing to see you on the route!
