Story
On Saturday 24 April, I'll be taking part in the world's greatest marathon with #Team Place2Be!
Place2Be is the UK's leading school-based mental health charity, providing support to children, families and school-based staff when they need it most.
I took up running January 2026 when my mother passed away. I wanted to do something that was mentally challenging and grueling so I decided to get up of the couch and run 200 miles/322 Km before her funeral January 31st. I managed to complete 201.4 miles on January 25th giving me a week to spare. The saturday and Sunday I ran my own half marathon on both days. I just kept telling myself 1 more mile.
I noticed 3 important things during that running period.
1. Focus on myself, Im not running the same race as the person across the road. They can be on mile 1 or 26 and its not for me to keep up with them. The same goes with life, we are all in different phases enjoy your phase or change your phase.
2. I had to just keep moving, rolling out of bed at 4am to run 7-9 miles a day with no streching required me to elevate my mind. One step at a time will get me to where I need to be. I was not running based on a time.
3. Nothing is impossible, I've just not done it yet. With that being said this is my first marathon and I know my mom will be watching down on me encourging me 1 step at a time.
With that being said, I'll do one step at a time and keep moving. Now I have another purpose to run and it will be for the children. Im a father of my own 2 children but many more will be counting on me. Just like I didnt let my mother down, I'll not let the children down.
Big challenges require big personalitlies and I fit the bill.
Lets get rocking and rolling. Your contributions will go a long way.
