Sneha's fundraiser for Global Anaesthesia

Sneha Betkekar is raising money for Global Anaesthesia Development Partnerships

Hike up to the tigers nest - Bhutan · 30 March 2026

Billions of people globally lack access to basic healthcare. GADP is an international charity dedicated to ensuring that patients have access to safe surgeries. We are made up of anaesthetists in the UK, Zambia & Ethiopia. We develop training, provide support and advocate for safer anaesthesia.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’ll be taking on the challenge of hiking to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang) in Bhutan to raise money for Global Anaesthesia.

Tiger's Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang) is an iconic, sacred 17th-century Bhutanese monastery, clinging to a 3,000-meter-high cliff above the Paro Valley. Built in 1692 around a cave where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated, it is accessible only by a 4-6 hour round-trip hike. The site features temples and stunning views, requiring a 550m-900m ascent.

I’m doing this to support the Zambia Anaesthesia Development program, a partnership initiative that works to develop safe anaesthetic and critical care in Zambia. In low and lower-middle income countries like Zambia, 9 out of 10 people do not have access to basic surgical care. A fundamental component of access to safe surgery is the presence of a specialist physician who is trained to prepare patients for surgery, deliver anaesthesia, provide effective and appropriate pain relief and care for critically unwell patients. These physicians are anaesthetists.

Currently, there are around 60 physician anaesthetist in Zambia, yes, in the whole country of around 10 million people. To put this in perspective there are over 10,000 physician anaesthetists in the UK.

Please help ZADP's goal to train more physician anaesthetists so that they can help deliver safe surgical care to those who need it.

Around the world, millions of people don’t have access to safe anaesthesia and pain relief during surgery. Global Anaesthesia works to improve access to safe anaesthetic care in low-resource settings, helping ensure that life-saving operations don’t come with unnecessary suffering or risk.

This hike will be physically demanding, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges faced by patients and healthcare workers without the resources they need. Every donation, big or small, will help support training, equipment, and safer surgical care where it’s needed most.

Thank you so much for your support — it truly means a lot 🤍
