10-20g fat / day challenge in aid of Read for Good Charity Read for Good: motivating kids to love reading and helping disadvantaged children.

A small team within Swedish Orphan Biovitum (Sobi) UK& RoI (more information below) are, for the second time, taking on the highly restricted fat intake diet challenge to raise money for charity. This year’s charity -Read for Good, is dedicated to providing a regular supply of brand new books along with storyteller visits to brighten up the days of children in all of the UK’s main children’s hospitals.
Funds raised from this challenge will go directly to the Read for Good Charity Hospital Programme Read for Good's hospital programme gives books and stories to children's hospitals.
For children in hospital, books and stories are particularly important – they comfort, distract, reassure and entertain, while also supporting disrupted learning. Read for Good provides a regular supply of brand new books along with storyteller visits to brighten up the days of children in all of the UK’s main children’s hospitals.
Children unable to leave their beds can choose books from our specially designed mobile bookcase which wheels right up to their bedside. Because they are brand new, the books are safe for those at high risk of infection.
Immersing ourselves in the understanding of what it is like living with a Rare Disease is something close to the hearts of Sobi employees who are dedicated to transforming the lives of people living with Rare Diseases. Some people with specific genetic rare diseases can be required to severely restrict their fat intake (amongst other dietary restrictions) as they don't have the enzyme which breaks fat down, or what enzyme they do have doesn't work properly.
Some members of the Sobi team will be embarking on the restricted diet (10-20g/day, equivalent to approx. 2-6 walnuts!) that some of those living with a genetic enzyme deficiency may need to manage daily, in addition to a restricted intake of sugar, carbohydrate and no alcohol! This way of life is difficult to achieve and can be socially isolating, it makes being away from home tricky, and impacts both the person with the rare disease, and those around them.
On behalf of the Sobi team, and Read for Good Charity, we would be very grateful for any donations to our justgiving page no matter how large or small – every penny will go directly to the Read for Good Charity and will make a positive difference to those supported by and benefitting from the amazing work they do.
Enormous thanks!
