Story
As part of Prison Week 2025 the SoJPS are organising and taking part in the tough and ambitious “Around the clock, around the Fence” challenge consisting of constant movement around the prison’s external fences for a period of 24 hours symbolizing that the service runs 24 hours each and every day of the year. We aim to start at 5:45 on the 16th of October and finish at 5:45 the following day. When this is complete at 6:00 am, we will be running a lap of honour in memory, reflection and remembrance of our very own Officer Barnes who lost his battle and sadly passed away 8 years ago. The 1 mile lap of honour will start from the golf ball and will take place around the prison estate to show our uniform in arms.
We do this touch challenge in aid of a fantastic charity Brighter Futures. Brighter Futures is a local charity supporting parents, families and young people in Jersey, Channel Islands. We provide coordinator 1:1 support alongside a number of Free programmes and services to help support the parents and carers they meet.
Supporting approximately 150 families at any one time, they focus on three key areas;
1. Parent–Child Relationships programmes
2. Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing programmes
3. Second-Chance Learning programmes
Together, we are creating brighter futures for families in Jersey.
Support our efforts by donating to this fantastic charity. It will help us keep moving for the whole 24 hours and make a difference to the families of Jersey.
