Story
Solace is a leading specialist charity in the UK supporting women and children experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence. Whatever form violence comes in, from rape to trafficking to relationships based on psychological or financial control, we work to end it. We know that escaping the effects of violence can be hard. That’s why the lifesaving support that Solace provides to nearly 30,000 women, children and young people each year is so important.
Solace exists to end the harm done through gender-based violence. Our aim is to work to prevent violence and abuse as well as providing services to meet the individual needs of survivors, particularly women and children. Our work is holistic and empowering, working alongside survivors to achieve Independent lives free from abuse.
Our work takes many forms, it could be:
- helping a woman and her children flee from abuse to a safe location in one of our 22 safe accommodation refuge sites
- it could be offering advocacy and supporting through a court case
- it could be working in schools to help young people recognise and build healthy relationships, and reject gender norms
- or it could be providing specialist support and confidential information though our advice line or rape crisis service.
