Soléna's Half Marathon for Refugee Action

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2025 · 6 April 2025 ·
If you’d told me last year that I’d be running a half marathon, I’d have laughed (and then probably needed a lie-down!). Back then, I could barely make it through 5km but here I am, training for 21.1 km! And because if I’m going to challenge myself, it might as well be for something that matters, I’m running for Refugee Action, a charity close to my heart, making a real difference for people who’ve had to flee their homes due to war, persecution, or disaster. Running this race isn’t just about crossing the finish line for me, it’s also about standing in solidarity with those who’ve lost everything and need a fresh start.
Refugee Action provides life-changing support for refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK. They help families navigate the complex asylum system, access housing, education, and healthcare, and build safe, dignified lives. But they don’t stop there, they also campaign tirelessly to challenge unfair policies and create a more welcoming society.
For someone forced to leave everything behind, Refugee Action can be the difference between feeling lost and finding hope. That’s why I’m proud to run for them and raise funds to support their vital work.
This is more than a personal fitness goal - though I do plan to finish in under two hours and ten minutes, without stopping (or dying!). Running for Refugee Action lets me combine my passion for running with a cause I truly care about. It’s my way of helping create a world where compassion and justice matter.
Your support means everything. Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference. It helps Refugee Action provide refugees and people seeking asylum with the tools and resources they need to rebuild their lives with dignity.
£10 could provide a family with essential supplies such as blankets, nappies and food from our destitution fund.
£25 could help train a volunteer, so they are fully equipped to provide support and advice for families with vulnerable children.
£50 could help a family find accommodation, so they do not end up living on the streets and can work towards rebuilding their lives with dignity.
£100 can help pay for an interpreter to attend five advice sessions and translate for a refugee, helping them to receive informed advice.
£500 could help pay for volunteer expenses for 2 months, ensuring refugees have someone to talk to and ask for advice.
£1,000 could cover the project cost of interpreters for one year, ensuring that we provide critical support to help refugees out of destitution and homelessness, in a language they understand.
Thank you for reading and for considering supporting this cause. Whether it’s through a donation, sharing this page, or simply learning more about refugee issues, you’re helping make a difference.
