On 8 October, I will be taking on the challenge of trekking to Everest Base Camp to raise money for EMICS (East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme). EMICS is a charity made up of volunteer doctors and paramedics who provide advanced emergency medical care at the scene of life-threatening incidents across the East Midlands. The charity works alongside NHS ambulance services but receives no NHS, government, or public sector funding, relying entirely on donations and the dedication of its volunteers.

Over approximately two weeks, I will be trekking at high altitude, covering rugged terrain, crossing suspension bridges, and passing through remote Sherpa villages while facing the physical and mental challenges that come with thin air and demanding conditions. Reaching Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres will be a significant achievement, and I'm proud to be taking on this challenge to raise awareness and funds for EMICS and the life-saving work they do.

I have seen the impact of their work through a close friend's family, who were supported by EMICS following a tragic accident. Their rapid response and specialist care can make a life-changing difference during the most challenging circumstances.
