Story
UPDATE & THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Three weeks have passed since our return from the Everest Base Camp trek, and we're still trying to fully comprehend the experience!
We both agree it was the most unforgettable and impactful journey we've ever embarked on. Despite the challenges of altitude, sleep deprivation, freezing temperatures, strenuous climbs, and lengthy trekking days, foregoing alcohol (!!) and serious a decline in our hygiene standards, it was undeniably worth it to witness the awe-inspiring scenery firsthand—vistas we found difficult to capture through a lens!
What kept us going was the sheer beauty and grandeur of the Himalayan mountains and the excitement of being in such a remarkable place. Spending two nights at base camp, nestled at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall, was beyond our wildest imaginations and certainly not the usual experience! Interacting with climbers from around the globe as they prepared for their ascent and reflecting on the iconic figures and stories of Everest Base Camp was truly remarkable. We will never forget the echoing sounds of avalanches and glacier cracks throughout the night!!
Thank you so much to everyone who generously donated to our chosen charities, Reuben’s Retreat and Breast Cancer Now. With your support, we raised over £4000 - we're so grateful.
Final Thoughts from James:
I'd like to express one last sentiment: it was Sonia who envisioned this adventure for us this year, and she displayed remarkable strength, resilience, and determination throughout the trek, despite the challenges! Sonia even took care of me when I fell ill at Base Camp. I'm incredibly proud to be a part of her life. I think we've earned some less demanding holiday for the foreseeable future! 😊
Thank you,
James and Sonia
Reuben’s Retreat was founded in August 2012, just 2 days after Reuben Graham died aged just 23 months old. His Mummy Nicola created the charity to help others who are facing or already dealing with similar heartbreak, walking side-by-side with families offering emotional and practical support for parents and siblings bereaved of a child and for families of life limited or threatened children who face uncertain futures. To find out more about this incredible charity, please visit their website www.reubensretreat.org or social media channels.
