Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.

2025 will be the year I turn 50 and the 11th anniversary of loosing my Dad who found life too difficult to cope with, and thought the only way out was to take his own life.

My Dad suffered with mental health issues for a long time, even though to look at he was fine and physically fit, he had a lot of demons to contend with, which in the end just become too much for him.

I really want to bring more awareness to mental health issues, especially in men. A large majority of men, still struggle to talk openly about how they feel, or even consider reaching out for help.

We've seen in recent years how mental health issues effect so many different people, with some very high profile deaths, when everyday life just becomes too much, and they believe the only way out is to take their own life.

Having experienced this first hand, it's heart breaking that someone you're so close to doesn't believe they have any other option.

Last year in memory of my Dads 10 year anniversary I ran Brighton Marathon (in a respectable 04:07:51), which was the most challenging, yet incredible event I’ve ever taken part in. Although vowed to never run a marathon again, (I said the same 6 years ago after taking part in my first half marathon), I’ve decided to take my running to the next level and take part in an ultra marathon (like you do).

Turning 50 this year it only made sense to coincide this challenge with my own life milestone, running 50km at 50.

As I enter a new decade and in honour of my Dad and his 11th anniversary I’m going to take part in my first (and I promise only) ultra marathon.

This will be my most challenging event yet, however during the training, and the event itself it will give me plenty of time to reflect on some of the battles my Dad was continuously fighting, and will hopefully spur me on to the finish line, when things are getting tough. At the same time raising funds for the charity that dedicates it's time to support people suffering from mental health issues; and who knows may just help one person decide not to take the same route my Dad chose.

Thank-you for taking the time to read my story, and any donation however small is greatly appreciated.
