I'm running the BMW Berlin Marathon 2024 for Dementia UK because...
Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. Today almost 1 million people are living with dementia and right now there are only around 400 Admiral Nurses to support them and their families. Compared to many of the most serious health conditions, specialist follow-up support for dementia is hard to get because it barely exists.
Dementia UK is the only UK-wide charity dedicated to specialist dementia nursing to support families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.
Dementia UK Admiral nurses provide life-changing care to people with dementia allowing them to stay independent for longer. In addition, they support the people caring for sufferers of dementia, so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days.
Dementia is a complex condition, unique to every individual and their family. Admiral Nurses understand this: they provide tailored, practical support to thousands of families every year, offering them reassurance, understanding and a listening ear that helps them feel more in control.
With the support of an Admiral Nurse and Dementia UK – whether it’s on our Helpline, through our clinic service, or in the community – families we support know they are not alone. This is a free service offered 7 days a week and your support will help fund more nurses to provide more care for an increasing number of dementia sufferers in the UK.
Dementia UK is a specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support those caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families regain control when they are struggling.
