Story
Our son Sonny was born on 7th June 2025. When he was just three weeks old, we received the life-changing diagnosis that he had biliary atresia, a rare and serious liver disease that affects babies.
At six weeks old, Sonny underwent the Kasai procedure, major surgery to try to restore bile flow from his liver. Since then, our lives have involved regular hospital admissions, ongoing monitoring, and specialist care under the incredible paediatric liver team at King’s College Hospital.
Like so many families affected by childhood liver disease, we’ve had to learn very quickly how complex, uncertain, and emotionally challenging this journey can be. Alongside the medical care, the information, guidance, and support provided by British Liver Trust and the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation have been invaluable to us.
In 2026, we want to give something back. EJ will be running the Hertfordshire Half Marathon in November, and we’re also planning a supper club in June for friends and family, to raise money for these charities who support research, families, and children living with liver disease every single day.
We are endlessly grateful for the care Sonny has received and for the charities who stand beside families like ours. Thank you so much for supporting us and helping to make a difference for other children and families facing liver disease.
