I’m taking on the London Marathon next year, one of the most iconic races in the world, to support Prostate Cancer Research

About Why I’m Doing It 💙🧡💙

Like so many others my family have been directly impacted by this all too common disease.

My Grandad, Eric, was diagnosed with prostate cancer disease in 2010. As a traditional determined Yorkshireman not wanting to make a fuss, he didn't really tell any family members and underwent surgery to remove his prostate. We thought we were lucky when the surgery went as planned and my Grandad seemed healthy and happy. But in February 2021, everything changed. My Grandad began experiencing painful symptoms which stopped him doing the thing he loved most (apart from his family!) - golf. As a result his excellent GP ordered several tests, including a PSA, which came back as abnormal. Our worst fear was confirmed - the cancer had returned and metastasized to his kidney and hip. Despite an emergency nephrostomy, my Grandad's health deteriorated, and he passed away in November 2021 due to complications from the cancer, surrounded by his family.

Losing him was heartbreaking for all of us, but I know he would want us all to go on to live life to the absolute fullest, take on risks and challenges- just like he did.

I want to raise money for Prostate Cancer Research for both the personal challenge and to help fund vital research and improve treatments for this disease. No family or person should have to experience what my family and Grandad did, and by supporting this cause and supporting vital research into innovative treatments, I hope I can help make a difference.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed male cancer in the UK, yet current treatments are limited and can be harmful particularly for the late stages.

Prostate Cancer Research funds research into more effective treatments for prostate cancer with the aim creating a future where people are free from the impact of the disease. Your fundraising will support innovative scientists with bold ideas working collaboratively to achieve results and who put patient voice at the heart of their decisions making a real difference to the lives of people affected.
