Story
Last month after a Facebook post pleading for donations for their food bank, I visited the Colne Open Door Centre.
I got there just before they closed but I felt like they had all the time in the world to talk to me about the centre. Nick told me about all the incredible work they do which includes providing a safe nurturing and friendly environment for individuals experiencing a vulnerable time in their lives, providing food parcels for families in need, offering a free counselling service and so much more.
One story that stood out was of a 5 year old boy, who when their food parcel was delivered to the door, he jumped up and down at the excitement over receiving cereal and milk, not sweets or fancy treats, just cereal and milk.
Pendle has the highest level of child food poverty in England, so the work Colne Open Door Centre does is invaluable to the community.
So, I will be joined by a group of friends to take part in a challenge to raise money for such a great cause.
On the 29th November, we will be taking on the task of scaling Pendle Hill, which is 557 metres tall, continuously for 6 hours, without stopping, starting at 7am and finishing at 1pm.
We are doing this in November, to not only make a challenge with the weather, but also to ensure Colne Open Door Centre can provide more than just food in the parcels this Christmas, as every one deserves Christmas presents!
We are asking people to donate anything they can to help support the amazing work the centre does day in and day out. If you aren't able to donate, sharing this so it can reach more people is still incredibly helpful.
