Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
An IRON(WO)MAN 70.3 is a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run.
I will complete this on June 22nd in Annecy (France.)
I will be swimming, cycling, and running for Koestler Trust.
Since 1962 the Koestler Awards have played a unique, national role in motivating prisoners, secure hospital patients and immigration detainees to take part in the arts. The Koestler Awards are simple and powerful - reward achievement, build self-confidence and broaden horizons for some of society’s most disadvantaged and marginalised people.
Working in prisons, previously, and now in rehabilitative programmes, I am a strong believer (and have also heavily researched) in the positive impact of creative arts in prisons.
Prison is a monotonous, often colourless and exasperating environment to live in. The Koester awards give people in this environment some colour and self-confidence. The chance to show their artwork (poetry, creative writing, music, painting, other forms of expression) to wider communities and their family.
Having submitted work on a lot of prisoners' behalf, it was evident how much effort and commitment had been put in. And that there is a lot of unfounded talent that hasn't been given a chance to express itself.
But don't just take my word for it - Read some of the Koestler stories to see the impact. Read about the mentoring schemes, Koestler Voices, and the feedback system, and all the other great stuff.
Thanks for reading and any donation :)
