Story
Hi, I'm Sophie. After running the London Marathon 2024 with team Macmillan where, through people's heartwarming donations, I raised £4,057, I wanted to do it all over again - and luckily, I was accepted by Macmillan for the second year running.
The money I raised last year helped run Macmillan's online community forum for six days, providing approximately 10,440 people with a space to give emotional and practical support to each other on anything relating to cancer.
Having heartbreakingly losing our Grandad in 2019 where Macmillan was there when we needed them the most; day or night, weekday or weekend, they were there. Now it's my turn to give back.
Above all else, our Grandad was a family man who loved us unconditionally. Continuously playing practical jokes and cooking BBQs, he was happiest with a house full of people laughing, having fun, and making happy memories. I miss his smile and the sound of his laughter.
Ordinarily a brilliant dresser with polished shiny shoes (he probably got his formal dress sense from serving in the Royal Artillery), Grandad was prone to dressing up in funny costumes for extravagant parties and having an old fashioned knees up.
So, I'm fundraising for Macmillan because helping those people living with cancer really is life changing. They supported my Grandad during his time of need and I know, with your charitable donations, they will continue supporting other people too. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity.
A true Cockney Geezer - this one is for you, Grandad. I love and miss you, always x
