Wessex Cancer Support provides free and local emotional support to anyone affected by cancer in Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. Clients may have cancer themselves, be adjusting to life after cancer, supporting someone with cancer or be bereaved. We rely on donations to provide this support.

Story

Team WRS will be taking on the 2025 London Marathon to raise money for Wessex Cancer Support. The team has already started training and is training extremely hard to ensure they hit their times and do themselves and the charity proud.

One in two people will get cancer in their lifetime. Wessex Cancer Support is a charity that relies on donations to provide free and local support to anyone affected by cancer away from the hospital. Every person receives tailored support that best suits their needs. This ranges from counselling to transport, which helps patients travelling from the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands get to their hospital appointments.

Here are a few words from the team explaining why they are running for such a fantastic cause.

Cailemb

"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to run the London Marathon. It's going to be incredibly tough, and it's supposed to be, this is why it raises so much money & awareness for charities providing crucial services. I look forward to raising money for Wessex Cancer Support and pushing myself to the limit."

Ben

“Cancer has personally affected my and my family's lives. Wessex Cancer Support provides such vital services for families going through the worst. I’m honoured to be able to raise money so this charity can continue its amazing work, all while being able to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime event!”

Luke

"Cancer affects so many lives, and raising money and awareness is something I’m deeply passionate about. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to compete in a marathon, a goal that many people would love the opportunity to achieve. That’s why I want to do my part to make a difference."

Sophie

“It was a privilege to be asked to run for Wessex and take a charity place. Cancer is something that will affect many families and has affected my family and loved ones throughout my life. Giving something back to the charity will be a real honour.
