Story
This year I’m taking on the Butt to Barra cycle in support of Bethesda Hospice.
I’m doing this in honour of two of the most resilient, generous and remarkable women: my granny Mary Maclean and Catriona Mackay. They were both nurses, who dedicated their lives giving care, comfort and kindness to others. They gave so much of themselves to everyone around them and they did it with strength, warmth and quiet selflessness that I will always admire and carry with me.
In their final days, Bethesda gave that same level of care back to them. The compassion, dignity and respect they were shown meant everything, not only to them, but to all of us who love them. As nurses themselves, they understood what truly exceptional care looks like, and both said they were in the very best hands.
The work Bethesda does is incredible, but it depends so heavily on community support to continue.
Cycling from the Butt to Barra will be a challenge, but it feels small compared to what families who rely on Bethesda go through every day. I’m doing this to honour two women I love, and to help ensure that others can experience the same compassion, care and dignity when it matters most.
If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, it would mean so much. Thank you for helping me support a place that gives so much to so many.
