Great Birmingham 10K 2024 · 5 May 2024 ·

Since 1988, St Luke’s has been providing specialist, palliative care and support to local people, supporting them in ways which go beyond the scope and funding of the NHS. Our support begins from the moment someone is diagnosed, through to palliative care and ultimately end of life care.

Story

In the April of 2019, my dad sadly passed away after a battle with oesophageal cancer. He was a man of great laughter, care and happiness, and was loved by all those around him.

St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice cared for my dad throughout his battle with cancer. They provided around the clock care for not only my dad but for our whole family. On top of providing the much-needed medical care for him, they also offered us counselling and created space to allow (me, my brother and my mum and even our dog!)  to spend time at the hospice to be with my dad in his final weeks.

St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice only receives 15% of its funding from the government, the rest is all generated from fundraising. On the 5th of May 2024, myself, my three friends, Millie, Eve and Daisy, as well as my boyfriend, Joel, will be running the Birmingham 10k in honour of my dad with the aim to raise as much money as possible for St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice, to help them be able to keep doing the essential work they do.

As we run, we will remember my dad running his own 10k, then proceeding to be late to a date with mum and sleeping the evening away – we hope to not be as sleepy after our own race!!
