Sophie's fundraiser for Brain Tumour Research

Half marathon race per month until London 2025.
This one’s a little close to home for me, but here we go.
In February 2023 I had that phone-call from my sister telling us that her husband, Adam, was in hospital. He wasn’t in a good way and at the time had been relying on my sister due to unimaginable headaches. Initially the headaches were thought to be stress but as they grew worse and reduced functions Adam was taken into hospital.
Following lots of scans and many pokes and prods he was informed that he has a stage 4 Glioblastoma. This is a fast growing type of brain tumour. This needed to be removed as soon as possible. An amazing team completed the surgery and they managed to remove the majority of the 8cm tumour that had grown. Unfortunately during surgery Adam suffered a stroke which affected the mobility on his left side and eyesight.
He recovered well and continued Physiotherapy at home, learning to walk and move again. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy was next on the agenda. The side effects of which are absolutely brutal but Adam took everything in his stride!
Unfortunately since his first tumour and owing to the nature of it, Adam has now had two further operations removing two Glioblastomas. His surgeon is fantastic and will continue to operate as and when required.
In between surgeries Adam was contacted by Brain Tumour Research and he wrote the below story. (He is definitely more eloquent than me, so have a read!)
It’s so important to raise awareness of this disease. It’s very misunderstood in comparison to other forms. People do not seem to grasp the fact that there is no cure but the more money raised the more research can take place and the closer we can get to helping people with this incurable disease.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. This is unacceptable!
I am fundraising for Brain Tumour Research as they are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK. Please help me fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
We have completed 5 wolf runs together in the past and I always remember how much we both enjoyed them (some more than others!)
