In memory of Dave Neary and Amanda Penney

Sprint triathlon · 20 June 2026

Bury Hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care to hundreds of residents and their families across Bury. It will cost to run the Hospice this year £4.8million and we raise 83% of this total, but with the support of our community we continue to provide care and services to those who need it.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Some of you may know its been a difficult few years personally, and after a couple of 10k runs, i decided i wanted to do something for me and focus on my self again. I decided to sign up for the Abersoch Triathlon to challenge myself, to give me something to focus on mentally and to also try and raise some much needed funds for Bury Hospice.

The two people i am raising money in memory of, Dave and Amanda, were very fond of Abersoch and i have many memories of being there with them both, so where better to take on a Triathlon! I can't say im that excited at the moment but i have been working hard to train and prepare for a number of months so hopefully the event will run smoothly!

Both Dave, my Father-in-law, and and Amanda, my "Auntie" spent their final days being cared for by the dedicated staff at Bury Hospice, who work tirelessly to ensure patients are comfortable and cared for with dignity. I can imagine what they'd both say about my challenge, and picture them both cheering me on, with Dave waiting at the finish line, on the beach, with a large cold glass of wine. He would probably be trying to hurry me up y threatening to drink it!!

More recently, two Families at one of the schools i work at have also been bereaved, and relied on the care and compassion of the Hospice staff, which has given me more of a push to raise money, as this has affected both colleagues, friends, and friends of my own children.

The Hospice relies on vital fundraising and donations in order to continue helping families at times of need. This year the hospice will need 4.8 million in order to run, 83% of which comes from donations and fundraising so please donate whatever you can, not amount is too small.
