🌍🌟 Sophie’s Journey to Teach in South Africa

Warwick in Africa · 28 July 2025
This summer, I have been given the most incredible opportunity to travel to Limpopo, South Africa, for 6 weeks as part of Warwick in Africa (WiA), where I’ll teach English to students eager to learn, grow, and build brighter futures.
We often take for granted the privilege of a quality education, which creates opportunities, choices, and the confidence to shape our future. For many children in South Africa however, even the most basic education is a daily struggle. Overcrowded classrooms, often holding 100+ students, mean children are forced to share limited resources and fight for the attention they deserve.
Warwick in Africa (WiA) is a holistic educational programme extending beyond the student volunteer initiative. Since 2006, WiA has benefited over 130,000 students and trained 5,000 teachers across Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania, creating long-term, sustainable improvements in education.
A crucial part of my role as a volunteer is raising funds and awareness to support WiA’s incredible work. Even a small donation can make a huge difference:
📚 £10 can fund a child’s education for an entire month.
🎒 £150 can provide a school with vital resources, like new chalkboards or sports equipment.
Your support will directly impact these hardworking students, giving them the tools they need to learn, dream, and succeed.
Education is the most powerful tool to change lives, and I hope to make even the smallest difference for these students. But I can’t do this alone. Your generosity—no matter how big or small—can help shape a child’s future.
Even if you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this page with your friends, family, or on social media can help spread the word and bring awareness to this important cause.
💛 Together, we can give these young minds the education they deserve and the future they dream of. Thank you for being part of this journey with me!
