Story
Our beautiful baby girl Paisley Elizabeth Payne was born at 36+4 weeks on Monday 2nd June 2025 after finding out two days prior (Saturday 31st May 2025) that her heart had stopped beating. What was meant to be one of my many routine check ups (every other day) I had no idea what I was walking in to. Even when they couldn’t find her heartbeat at first on the CTG Monitor I still in my head was not worried as she never liked them and would always move and make it hard to have an accurate reading. To then be scanned and told i’m sorry there is no heartbeat anymore. Is one of the most devastating things to ever hear especially when you had no concerns or worries. We had a very difficult pregnancy being told we wouldn’t make it past 30 weeks pregnant and that they believed baby was very small below the 3rd centile with a very small head circumference which meant we had to have an Amniocentesis to check for any genetic conditions. After all results came back with everything being clear we accepted that Paisley will just be smaller which was perfectly fine with us. We knew my placenta wasn’t working properly which they believed caused her to be smaller and for my high blood pressure and one of the reasons why we was going to have to deliver early. But my beautiful little Paisley proved everyone wrong and kept fighting in there and got to 36 weeks which we never in our wildest dreams thought we would get to. One week before she passed at our last scan they estimated she was weighing around 4 pounds and 1 ounce. Well our little girl was born at 4 pounds 15 ounces which every one at the hospital was shocked by and her head circumference was normal for her gestation. Again proving everyone wrong she was absolutely perfect. Paisley was just under a week away from being born as I was scheduled to be induced at 37 weeks. We don’t know what happened to our beautiful little girl and why her heart stopped. We may never know but hopefully one day we might have a clearer understanding and get some answers. But nothing will ever make this pain go away. The bereavement team (especially Sara) and the midwife’s at Princess Royal Hospital were so caring and comforting at a very hard time. They have helped us try to come to terms with the loss of Paisley and made our stay at the hospital the best it could possibly be at the hardest time in our lives. They helped our older two children Bailie and Hallie with the loss of their baby sister and helped us to create as many memories as we could as a family. The Robinson suite at the Princess Royal has had so much love and care put into it to help parents navigate through this horrible experience.
We love you Paisley our sleeping Angel 👼
If there ever comes a day, when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever 🫶🏻

Every year in the UK, thousands of people experience the loss of a baby whether that be in pregnancy, or at/soon after birth.
The loss or the death of their baby, can have far reaching effects. Good care cannot eliminate the pain and grief families experience, but it can help them through this devastating time.
At Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust we have 3 dedicated Bereavement Midwives (2 at Kings College Hospital and 1 at Princess Royal University Hospital) that aim to provide excellence in bereavement care to help families who experience the loss of a baby. We are passionate about continuously reviewing and developing the service to increase the support offered to families at this difficult time and all monies received will go towards improving the service.
