Sophie's fundraiser for Mind

Sophie Walker is raising money for Mind

Sharan Ultra Challenge · 8 October 2025

We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

In October this year, I will be walking the Sahara Ultra Challenge in aid of Mind. This challenge consists of walking 2 marathon distances in 2 days through the Draa Valley down to the dunes on the desert edge.

I have never attempted such an extended hiking challenge before and with the extreme heat and rocky terrain, have no doubts it will be difficult, but have decided to push myself in aid of Mind.

I will be training through the coming months by increasing my overall fitness through running and undertaking walks in the local countryside. I will also be completing another 50k Ultra Challenge in the UK (details to be confirmed).

Why Mind?

I have struggled with my own mental health throughout my adult life and have unfortunately known people who haven't made it through their battles. Mind does great work by providing accessible information on mental health, offering active help, and supporting those in need.

How will the money raised help fight for better mental health?

• Changing minds: By making mental health an everyday priority and standing up to injustices in healthcare, work, and law

• Supporting minds: Offering help through information, advice, and local services whenever needed

• Connecting minds: Building a network of individuals and communities who care about mental health to make a difference.

In 2023-2024, Mind responded to 122,000 queries to their support and information helplines, and their mental health information was accessed 25.3 million times. 83p from every £1 spent goes towards supporting people with mental health concerns.

I appreciate that the cost of living crisis has everyone counting pennies, but would appreciate any support to this worthy cause.
