It was a bittersweet moment encountering Aching Arms; in a time of immeasurable grief they showed us just how much difference a simple act of kindness can make.

On 2 November 2023 it was confirmed that we had lost our precious baby.

In that moment, the world stopped and the air felt suffocatingly painful to breathe. Walking into hospital carrying your baby and having to leave without them must be one of the cruelest moments that no words can adequately describe.

As so many have told us, and we now sadly know, baby loss doesn’t leave you, rather it lives with you - and it sadly changes you. The innocence of pregnancy is stripped away, the “would be” milestones are permanently engrained and everything reminds you of the inability to fulfil the plans you had made.

The feeling of pure emptiness both mentally and physically that losing a baby brings is indescribable – but what did make it slightly more bearable was Aching Arms.

Before we left hospital, we were offered a bear; a comfort bear gifted from one bereaved family to another. A symbol that you are not alone. This is what Aching Arms stands for; unity in the heartbreak of losing your baby. They also offer a wonderful Supporting Arms service run by bereaved parents offering support and an opportunity to share your feelings with those who really understand.

In honour of baby Wortham Hendey and ALL the other babies that have been lost too soon, Lee & Jim are taking on the Chelmsford Half Marathon on Sunday 3 March 2024. They have been training incredibly hard and we are all so proud of you! Any spectators to cheer the boys on are very welcome!

Sadly, baby loss is unfairly common, affecting 1 in 4 pregnancies – please give what you can to support this wonderful charity and in doing so, future families that may desperately need some comfort in the darkest moments of baby loss. For context, £20 will provide one comfort bear.
