Story
I'm running the London Marathon! (yes, really!)
I’ve always “done the odd bit of running,” but about four years ago I decided to hang up my trainers - my knees were aching, and it felt sensible to call it a day. Then earlier this year, a new Pilates instructor asked why I’d stopped. When I explained, she surprised me by saying running could actually help my knees. So, I cautiously gave it another go with Couch to 5K… and to my amazement, the knees seemed to hold up ok!
A few months later, a friend suggested I join them in running the London marathon. It felt like my last chance to tick off a lifelong bucket-list challenge - so I said yes. (My Pilates instructor’s reaction: “I meant maybe 10 minutes, three times a week… not 26 miles!”)
So here I am - excited, a bit terrified, and running to raise money for Caudwell Youth, an amazing organisation that mentors young people facing really tough challenges. They help them find confidence, resilience, and hope for the future - feel like I might need a bit of that when I'm trying to run the race!
Why Caudwell Youth?
As a parent of two young adults, aged 22 and 19, I’ve seen firsthand just how tough it can be for young people to find their way - to stay confident, connected, and hopeful about their future. The world can feel overwhelming at times, and the right support can make all the difference.
Caudwell Youth provides one-to-one mentoring for up to two years; long-term, consistent support for young people who may be facing some of the toughest challenges:
• Mental health needs
• Being in or leaving care
• At risk of offending or exploitation
They’re already working across Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes but with more support, they can reach even more young people who need someone in their corner.
How You Can Help
I'll do the running (and the hobbling). All I ask is that you support me and Caudwell Youth by donating whatever you can. Every penny will help more young people find the guidance, support and belief they deserve.
Thank you for cheering me on. I promise to try and look vaguely photogenic at the finish line.
Please donate and help me make every mile matter.
