The Children of Worcestershire and Herefordshire Cancer Fund has been set up to help support children and their families through their difficult journey

Story

On the 7th September I am running my 1st 10km race. I would like to use this as an opportunity to raise money for the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity Children of Worcestershire and Herefordshire Cancer fund.

All funds raised are used to support patients and their families whilst undergoing cancer treatment. From costa coffee gift vouchers to Halloween parties the funds raised make a real difference and help families to make memories.

This charity has helped my little sister Izzy by providing opportunities to meet other children receiving treatment for cancer, days and activities out for me Izzy and our little brother Fred.

I’m running to raise awareness and support for children like Izzy, whose courage, resilience and attitude impresses me everyday, although sometimes is annoying.

Izzy's story

Izzy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) three days before her second birthday, in January 2017. Izzy went through months of chemotherapy and then rang the end of treatment bell when she was 4 years old.

In April 2020 Izzy relapsed, meaning another period of similar treatment, with a spell in intensive care due to an infection, but managing to get home, and back to School in the Autumn.

In January 2024 Izzy relapsed again so she went to Manchester to receive car-t therapy. She was in hospital for 6 weeks.

Late November 2024 Izzy relapsed for the 4th time so this year on the 20th of January Izzy went to hospital to receive a stem cell transplant (from a Spanish umbilical cord). She spent 7 weeks isolating which meant me and Freddie couldn't go to see her until 9th of mar

ch when she taught me how to do loom bands which she learned while she was in hospital. On the 24th march Izzy finally came home after the stem cells settled in and she was told to go home.

Izzy is now 10 and has spent too long in hospital, including three of her birthdays. She went back to school again on the 11th June which was the 1st time in 6 months.
