Story

What am I doing?

In March 2026 I will take on Nordenskiöldsloppet, the world's longest cross-country ski race. It's a staggering 220km across the Arctic Circle, starting and finishing in Jokkmokk in Swedish Lapland. Skiers are given 30 hours to complete the course. That's my target.

I'm self-funding the entire expedition (race entry, training, travel etc) so every pound you donate goes directly to Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire. I'd love to raise £2,200 (£10 for each km) but any sized donation will have a positive impact.

You can read more about the race on the official website: https://www.nordenskioldsloppet.com/

Who are Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire?

Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire (also known as Oxfordshire Search and Rescue, shortened to OxSAR) are a completely voluntary organisation who search for missing, vulnerable and high-risk people in support of the Police and Fire & Rescue services across the county and neighbouring areas. Members of the team are on call 24/7, 365 days a year and their hard work saves lives, brings people to safety, and provides much needed closure to families in their hardest moments.

Why your support matters

As OxSAR is a charity, and volunteer run, we rely entirely on donations to fund our specialist search equipment, vehicles, boats, medical supplies, training and deployment costs and more. All of this can make the difference in our ability to save a life or not, so even a few pounds is really meaningful.

Why this challenge?

I joined the OxSAR team earlier in 2025 and find it incredibly rewarding. The Nordenskiöldsloppet race symbolises something deeply meaningful to me: Searching, Finding, Resilience and Rediscovery.

Each of these themes reflects what OxSAR strives to achieve and some of the challenges I've also been navigating personally in recent years.

I'll be posting more about these reasons on the OxSAR social media pages as the race approaches.

Thank you!
