The Nightingale Centre’s Mammary Walk · 7 September 2024 ·

Lisa Thomas has challenged her colleagues to take on a 'Mammary Walk'. 50 inflatable boobs will descend the streets of Manchester to raise funds for the National Breast Imaging Academy, getting more women to their mammograms, sooner.

Story

I have been challenged to do the 10k Mammary Walk, dressed as a giant inflatable breast to raise funds for the National Breast Imaging Academy.

Severe workforce shortages in breast imaging mean an estimated 12,000 people in the UK could be living with undiagnosed breast cancer. At the NBIA, we have been working tirelessly to increase training numbers, develop new training routes and accentuate staffing levels across the country since 2018. We are very proud and happy to share the success here https://nationalbreastimagingacademy.org/about-radiology.

We believe it's time to consolidate all of this good work and take it to the next level. This appeal is to build a dedicated academy space to provide additional clinical space to see 13,000 extra patients annually, increase our training capacity and contribute to the much needed research facilities in breast cancer. Please get behind us and help us raise funds for a better future. Thank you!

*Our walk will be finishing around 2.30-3pm in St Peters square, Manchester if anyone would like to join us in support and celebrations.
