Southampton Sight's fundraiser Remedial Tree Work

Southampton Sight Fundraiser is raising money for Southampton Sight
“Remedial Tree Work”
2024 is the quasquicentennial (125th) year that Southampton Sight has been delivering services in Southampton and to mark this incredible achievement they are encouraging people, especially those living with sight loss, to take part in fundraising activities which put them out of their comfort zone

Story

As Spring is springing here at Southampton Sight we feel very lucky to have lovely gardens where squirrels roam and crocus and daffodils bloom.

BUT there is also a downside – as many of you will recall that Storm Darragh caused one of the lime trees to crash onto the building. After this happened, we had a tree survey done to check the other trees and the surveyor condemned one lime tree and suggested extensive works to another.

This recommendation has been submitted to Southampton City Council planning for permission to go ahead with the works. With these works comes huge expense (£5,340) and we also must replace the two trees that have failed.

We are now talking to Southampton City Council as to how and where we can plant the trees and thought that maybe we should look to plant memorial trees. Maybe for our work here at the Society to celebrate our 125 years or as a memorial for loved ones. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts, we would welcome them.
