Story
For nearly 50 years, Southend Mosque has been at the heart of our local Muslim community. Since opening in 1976, it has provided a place for worship, Qur'an education, Islamic learning, and community support for thousands of people.
Today, our community has grown significantly. Around 6,000 Muslims now live in Southend, yet only three masjids serve the entire town. Every Friday, our mosque becomes overcrowded, leaving many worshippers without enough space and some forced to pray outside.
To meet the needs of our growing community, we are raising £1,000,000 to expand Southend Mosque. £750,000 will be used to purchase two neighbouring properties, and £250,000 will fund the mosque extension and mezzanine development.
This project is about more than increasing capacity. It will provide a lasting home for daily prayers, Jumu'ah, Qur'an classes, youth programmes, family services, Islamic education, and support for new Muslims.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them."
(Sahih Muslim 1631)
