Supporting Wrexham AFC Foundation – For Archie and the Powerchair Team

As part of the SP Energy Networks 5 District Walk, the Dee Valley and Mid Wales District team will be raising funds for Wrexham AFC Foundation, supporting two incredibly meaningful causes close to the hearts of our colleagues and community:

#TeamArchie – Standing With the White Family

In November 2024, Archie White, a bright and brave 12-year-old from Wrexham, was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of leukaemia called myeloid sarcoma – a condition so uncommon it affects fewer than one in a million children.

Archie had endured months of excruciating joint pain, eye and nasal complications before finally receiving this devastating diagnosis. Since then, he’s shown unbelievable strength, undergoing three cycles of intensive chemotherapy at Alder Hey and now continuing treatment at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where he will face further chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

Despite it all, Archie’s positivity and spirit shine through. He’s a lifelong Wrexham AFC fan, loved by all who know him.

Sean Griffiths, our District General Manager for Dee Valley and Mid Wales, shared:

“Archie is an absolute inspiration. His determination and smile through it all has been phenomenal. I’ve known Archie since he was little – our families have always been close – and I’m proud to walk on his behalf, with the hope of raising enough for the family to take a well-earned respite holiday once he’s well enough. They’ve been through so much and remained incredibly strong.”

Wrexham AFC Powerchair Football Team – Access, Inclusion and Opportunity

The second cause we’re proud to support through this challenge is the Wrexham AFC Powerchair Football Team – a life-changing inclusive sport initiative run by Wrexham AFC Foundation.

The team provides children and adults with severe physical disabilities the opportunity to play competitive football using specially adapted powerchairs. These sessions aren’t just about sport – they build confidence, community, and independence for players who might otherwise miss out on the experience of being part of a team.

Funds raised will help cover the cost of equipment, maintenance, transport, coaching and venue hire, enabling the team to expand and offer more players the chance to thrive on the pitch. Your support helps ensure football truly is a game for everyone.

Our Challenge – The 5 District Walk

On 6–7 June, we’ll walk 70km across the SP Manweb licence area, taking on a two-day challenge to raise money for causes that truly matter to our teams and the communities we serve. We’re walking for Archie, for the Powerchair team, and for the belief that every person deserves to be seen, supported and celebrated.

Please donate whatever you can. Your contribution will go directly to Wrexham AFC Foundation, who will split the funds between these two powerful causes.

Thank you for supporting #TeamArchie and the Powerchair Football Family.
