Honoring My Gran—A Life Full of Pride, Wisdom, and Love

On 10 May 2025, I will be taking part in the Port of Leith Distillery Charity Abseil, raising funds for Alzheimer Scotland—a cause close to my heart.

This is in memory of my gran, my best friend, who passed away in 2023 while I was in Edinburgh, far from home in South Africa. She was a woman who truly knew herself, who embraced her African pride with grace, wisdom, and the most infectious sense of humor. She taught me strength, dignity, and the beauty of living with conviction.

Watching her fade mentally before she was gone physically was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. To see someone so vibrant, so full of life, slowly slipping away was heartbreaking. This abseil is my way of honoring her, of standing for others who are navigating the difficult path of dementia, and of ensuring more support, research, and awareness for those affected.
