Story

This is the 9th time our triathlon club have run a feed/rest stop on Summer/Winter spine. Organised by keen Spiners and Spine dot watchers from Craven Energy Triathlon club, we work closely with Spine Safety Team/HQ to provide a small sanctuary on the longest stretch of the race between checkpoints. Whilst our service is free to all you wonderful Spiners, many have asked to donate and over the years, we have raised in region of £5000 for local mountain rescue teams on Spine route.

We have all been deeply saddened at the tragic loss of former Spine Challenger winner Edward Catmur over New Year whilst training on the Pennine Way and all of us are thinking of him and his family. We are all humbled and enormously grateful for so many different Mountain Rescue teams selflessly giving up their time in the search. Whilst many teams were involved, we have chosen Penrith MRT as our chosen MRT charity as they were the lead team in the search for Edward with an extraordinary amount of personnel involved. In addition, they are on standby 24/7 on a vital section of Spine route on Cross Fell and so many Spiners can race/train in knowledge that they are there should they be needed.

About the charity

The Team comprises 40 unpaid volunteers, and is on call 24/7, 365 days a year in all weathers. It is funded by donations. There is significant on-going training in advanced first aid, mountain and water rescue. Achieved through the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of their employers.
