Get to know Alfie! A four-year-old Cocker Spaniel with a handsome smile, a soft heart, and a spirit full of gentle curiosity.

Hi everyone, I’m Alfie, and I’m the most handsome Cocker Spaniel you’ll ever meet (at least, that’s what everyone tells me, and I quite agree!) I came to live at RATS before I’d even reached my first birthday, and I’ve been here ever since - now I’m four years old!

When I’m with people I know and trust, I can be the most affectionate boy you could ever hope to meet. But I can be... well, let's call it "complicated". Sometimes my protective instincts kick in really strongly, and I don't always give much warning when that happens. I guard things that are precious to me - my toys, my treats, and most importantly, my people. The amazing staff at RATS understand this about me completely. They're incredibly careful in how they manage things, making sure everyone stays safe while also making sure I feel loved and secure.

I’m very lucky because I have a small, incredible group of dedicated walkers. When I see one of them arriving, my entire body starts wagging - not just my tail, my WHOLE body! I can't contain my excitement, and I greet them with the biggest smile you've ever seen. There's nothing better than exploring the world with one of my special people by my side. Only my walking gang and the kennel staff are allowed to handle me, and that's perfect because they all know exactly what I need and how to make me feel comfortable.

Now, I'll admit I can be a bit picky about other dogs. But when I find a dog I click with - oh, the fun we have! The staff here are brilliant at pairing me up with just the right playmate, and we get to run around in the field together. And tennis balls? Don't even get me started on tennis balls! There is absolutely nothing in this world that makes me happier than chasing a tennis ball with a good friend. Pure bliss.

RATS is going to remain as my home for ever and although I know some people might think it's sad that I can't be rehomed, I am very happy here. Yes, I have my triggers and my protective moments, but I'm surrounded by people who understand my complexities and love me just the way I am. I might not be easy for everyone, but for those who take the time, I’m a loyal friend who will fill your days with joy.
