A CELEBRATION OF HERTFORD’S RIVERS
The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters has produced an amazing yarnbomb in Hertford, Hertfordshire bringing joy to local residents this summer! We are celebrating Hertford’s stunning natural beauty by creating a woolly tribute to our rivers and wildlife that make Hertford such a special place to live!
The Society is delighted to have decorated Parliament Square in Hertford to celebrate The Rivers of Hertford!
Inspired by the natural beauty surrounding Hertford, we recreated scenes from our local rivers, the Rib, Lea, Mimram, Beane, New, Lee Navigation and Ashbourne, showing the water, its banks, how it creates habitats for plants and animals and a playground for people of all ages!
We’ve knitted, crocheted, sewed & upcycled a chalk stream, fish, ducks, coots, bees, butterflies, bullrushes, grasses, flowers, frogs, crayfish, voles, squirrels, herons, otters and water rats. We’ve also crafted a narrow boat, “Yarn Voyage” – a pleasure boat, wild swimmers, kayakers, anglers, birdwatchers, cyclists, dog walkers, joggers, gazebos and picnics!
We also showed why it’s so important to keep our precious rivers clean by highlighting the damage pollution can cause. We even made the famous Hertford Duck Race, complete with winning ducks on the podium!
