We are a non-profit organisation that relies completely on donations from adoptions and fundraising events so that we can ensure that any dog we help to save is healthy and up-to-date with vaccinations, neutered, given worm/flea treatments and that they are treated for any illnesses before rehoming.

Story

Staffie Smiles Rescue is asking for help with Neeko and friends vet bills.

Staffie Smiles Rescue is a small volunteer-run charity. We rescue Staffordshirebull Terriers (and crosses) from pounds across the UK and find these dogs suitable forever homes.

Like all charities we’ve struggled financially during this current cost of living crisis but with the help of our amazing supporters we rehomed more dogs last year than any years previously. However, the unprecedented demand for rescue spaces has been extremely challenging - this coupled with owners struggling to afford veterinary treatment has meant we have seen a dramatic increase in need for veterinary care. We are a small rescue and we do our best to care for these dogs, we couldn't do it without the support of our kind supporters.

Neeko - vets have quoted £1342 for this procedure

Neeko is an adorable senior staffie. He came into the rescue as sadly his owner became unwell and was no longer able to care for him. Neeko has since been placed in a lovely foster home where he is settling in well. As commonly seen with dogs his age Neeko has a few lumps and bumps. The vets have confirmed that Neeko requires a lump removed from his face as a preventative measure and some teeth extracted which have been causing him pain and discomfort. The vets have quoted £1342, including neutering. This is a lot for our small rescue, however we will make sure he receives the necessary vet care.

We have a soft spot for older dogs, they are often overlooked in favour of younger dogs but older dogs make great pets and have so much love to give! - Staffie Smiles Rescue

Harley - 'cherry eye' corrective surgery £570

Little love bug Harley is a really sweet girl. One of our committee members spotted she was being given away for free. Not wanting her to fall into the wrong hands we took her on board. She is now in a foster home and having the best time! Harley needs corrective surgery on 'cherry eye' a condition where the gland in the eye becomes swollen and red. To maintain eye health this needs corrected. The vets have quoted £570 for this procedure. You can follow Harley's progress here https://www.staffiesmilesrescues.com/profile---harley.html

King - double eye entropion surgery £682

King was an intake from a pound down South. We became aware of him the day before he was due to be put to sleep and fortunately we were able to offer this young boy a lifeline just in time! King needed corrective surgery for double eye entropion - when eyelid rolls inwards. Left untreated can cause severe pain, inflammation, eye ulcers, infections, scarring and even loss of eyes. King went to the most amazing foster home and after a settling in period he underwent his first corrective surgery. Unfortunately, there have been complications in his recovery, and his eyes need further investigation including potentially a second surgery. You can follow more on King here: https://www.staffiesmilesrescues.com/profile---king.html

We have a lot of sympathy for this young boy, he’s been through a great deal and we all so desperately want to see him live a happy life that this big gentleman deserves - Staffie Smiles Rescue.

Chase - tumour removal £1170

Chase was abandoned and taken to a pound. We saw her appeal and couldn’t leave her there. She had a “distended stomach” which we knew most likely meant cancer, she needed to be in a lovely home. She journeyed to her foster home in Edinburgh where on further veterinary investigation revealed she had a stomach tumour. At the point we considered end of life care her best option, however on getting to know her better and how much energy she has we reconsidered. Deciding to go ahead with the surgery the vet successfully removed a total of 4 kg of tumour - a large one from her stomach and another smaller tumour from her spleen. We are all delighted that she has made a miraculous recovery and is now in her forever home in the countryside. Keep updated on Chase progress here https://www.staffiesmilesrescues.com/forever-foster-dogs.html

Morning, Chase had her checkup today and graduated. Jon the vet was well pleased🥳 she’s not to jump fences or do cartwheels for two more weeks😘🤣 and she is happy as a lark. She is really feeling good and looking fab🥳 - Chase's foster mum
