Story
Friday 6 February is a non-uniform day in support of the Savannah Education Trust – our partner charity providing an education for some of the most deprived children in West Africa. The Paramount Chief of the area refers to the blue Savannah schools as ‘blue beacons of hope in the savannah’ - hence our plan to wear ‘blue for blue’ schools!
Shockingly, 122 million girls globally are still ‘out of school’. To put that vast figure in perspective, it would take over 4 years for a queue of that many girls to process past a fixed point (at a rate of one child per second). Given our commitment to educating girls, it seems appropriate that STAHS should support initiatives to increase access to education for girls. The Savannah Education now has schools in 10 communities in northwest Ghana educating several thousand pupils each day who would not otherwise be receiving an education. The Trust uses a range of strategies to ensure that there are just as many girls in our schools as boys. Currently, they are in the process of building a vocational college for school leavers to help the young people to develop employable knowledge and skills.
Your generous donations will provide life-changing opportunities for children in West Africa.
