Story
Blood Cancer UK is a community dedicated to beating blood cancer by funding research and supporting those affected.
Since 1960, they have invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. Blood cancer is the 5th most common cancer in the UK, and the 3rd biggest cancer killer. It is the most common cancer in children.
To support this life changing charity, on Wednesday 4th June, the Swiss Re UK team will embark on their annual flagship fundraising walk. From their London office together they will trek along the banks of the Thames for a 13 mile round trip to Battersea Park. They will be taking in the sights and sounds of West London, following the major success of the East London trek across to stunning Greenwich last year. 2025 is a big year for Blood Cancer UK, marking 65 years since this charity embarked upon its goal to beat blood cancer. We've come so far and celebrate bringing forward the day when no one will die of blood cancer or its treatments.
Every penny counts with our fundraising efforts being matched by the Swiss Re Foundation and all funds raised directly supporting two very special Blood Cancer UK projects:
Matthew Wilson Multiple Myeloma Fund - to help in our shared ambition to cure multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer which affects around 5000 people a year in the UK. Through investing in science we will improve treatments, survival rates and quality of life for people living with multiple myeloma and drive forward the day when we find a cure.
Clinical Trial Support Service (CTSS) - To directly fund one specialist nurse on the CTSS for the two years of our partnership. Across that time the service will directly support nearly 500 people, with the nurse funded by Swiss Re responsible for 200 patients. The service offers a support line staffed by our nurses who provide tailored information on eligible trials for people with blood cancer. A trial is often the last line of treatment for patients when other current treatments have failed to work. Without trials, advances in treatment would not be possible.
We need your help to raise as much money as possible in this special year for this wonderful cause, so please sponsor us today as we prepare to take on this challenge for Blood Cancer UK!
Thank you for your support, it is very much appreciated!
