Story
Last year, I'd planned to do the Kiltwalk in memory of my friend Antje who passed far too early from cancer. We were both from the Cologne area of Germany, both ended up in Renfrewshire, met at the German playgroup, loved the same music and knitting. Rays of Hope supported her throughout her illness and it felt right to fundraise for this charity in her memory.
Just as I was about to register, I was diagnosed with the same cancer and rather than support Rays of Hope through fundraising, I accessed their support for myself-knowing how much Antje had valued them. It was hard walking through that door, but the warm, genuine and understanding welcome I got was second to none. They get you and offer support of all sorts, for me, it was about prehab and rehab, getting me fit before, during and after treatment which has helped me cope with both the physical and mental aspects of cancer treatment.
This year, I'm determined to do the Kiltwalk at long last and of course who better to do it for - but Rays of Hope! (I'm still mega scared I won't complete it as it's more than I've ever walked in a day - I've run a marathon 20 odd years ago but walking it I think is actually harder, what was I thinking?)
Rays of Hope is currently expanding: adding a building to their current one so they can offer more activities. Your donation will support this expansion, as well as the running of their activity programme which ranges from peer support and exercise to craft classes and relaxation workshops.
Here's the just giving blurb and remember you can opt out of the fee they try to charge you ;)
