Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In December this year, we will be travelling to Zambia with our parents to help them coach Year 4 - 6 kids in local schools in Livingstone and we are raising money to help make their lives better.
This is what my Dad wrote on his fundraising page...
We are looking to raise AU$20,000 to continue our activities in Zambia for the next 12 months, developing community rugby in Livingstone, as well as supporting various other community projects. $20k will fund employment of a rugby development officer to run tag rugby programs in local schools, pay our rent and running costs for the Bharats Sports Complex (a base for all our activities) and to employ our ground keeper.
In March 2014 I first travelled to Zambia with UK charity Tag Rugby Trust (TRT), along with George Gregan and a group of Sydney junior rugby coaches to run tag rugby coaching in schools, followed by an inter-schools tournament at the end of the week.
Off the back of this first trip, Paul Adams founded Livingstone Rugby Club Zambia Trust (LRCZT) with myself and George as fellow trustees, looking to build a sustainable rugby program in Livingstone off the back of TRT's work and in line with their "Building Futures Through Rugby" motto, providing a platform for developing Young Leaders.
I returned in December 2017 with my eldest son Scott after he finished high school - again with George and Paul but also former Wallaby Stephen Hoiles, rugby commentator Sean Maloney and a Fox Sports camera crew, who filmed the 25 minute Out of Zambia documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMgNcKaWuxQ
Then just as COVID hit, Julie joined me on our last tour in March 2020 and, despite not having a rugby background, connected with the kids and the work we are doing to give them opportunities, improve their lives and give the opportunities for the future.
So in December this year we are finally returning, this time taking our 11 & 9 year old daughters, Stella & Bronte, to join us coaching the kids and to experience how kids their own age in less fortunate parts of the world live and go to school.
Since COVID, fundraising has been difficult and now after almost a decade of work in Livingstone we we are looking to raise enough money to sustain our activities for a further year.
Thanks in advance for your generous support.
