Story
Hello!
After London 2025 I decided that I would love to run again whilst raising money for a charity that meant something to me. I was privileged to have been offered a place to run with Team Scope. What an honour!
Individuals with any type of disability are amongst some of the most vulnerable and poorly treated in society. The rights of children, young people and disabled adults are not always respected and their voices often go unheard. The shocking statistics about mortality rates, rates of abuse and unequal access to education and health (to name a few) makes me want to raise as much awareness and money as I can for such an amazing well established and respected charity that advocates for the rights of disabled people .
There is so much injustice in our society. Changes to the benefits system, challenges with accessing work opportunities, health care that does not ensure reasonable adjustments and the significant challenges with EHCPs and specialist schools are just some of the current challenges which impact more on those who are already are at a disadvantage due to disability and how they are seen by society. Being an Occupational Therapist in the NHS for 24 years, I have seen the changes to health and social care and the impact this has had on quality of life.
More personally, my nephew Joel has Autism and a Learning Disability. I want him to live in a fairer society where he has access to opportunities, care and where his voice matters. Everyone has the right to this.
To raise money, I shall be taking part in a series of runs - trail and road runs, and taking part in other fund raising activities. It will all end next April 2025 with the London Marathon!
Thank you so much for sponsoring me. Your contribution will make a real difference to the lives of disabled people.
Thank you!! Stella xx
