Victoria and Albert Museum is raising money for Victoria and Albert Museum
In memory of Stephanie Thorndyke (née Cripps)
The V&A is a family of museums dedicated to the power of creativity. Our mission is to champion design and creativity in all its forms, advance cultural knowledge, and inspire makers, creators and innovators everywhere.

Story

Steph loved photography. Her colleagues have launched this site for donations to the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Photography Collection. We would like to raise sufficient to acquire a new work for the collection in memory of Steph.

Steph worked at the V&A in several roles between 2005 and 2017. She left her post as Deputy Head of South Kensington Exhibitions in 2017 to relocate with her family to Chichester to lead the team at The Novium, a job that she adored.

In her role as V&A Deputy Head of South Kensington Exhibitions Steph worked on numerous amazing shows including: At Home in Renaissance Italy, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, Maharajas, The Golden Age of Couture, Hollywood Costume, David Bowie Is, Tim Walker: Wonderful Things and many more.

Steph was renowned for her kindness and buoyancy. She had a radiant smile and the gift of generosity and friendship. With a razor-sharp mind, she provided swift and reliable solutions to seemingly intractable problems.

A naturally empathetic leader, Steph set an example admired by others. Despite the demands of a full and busy life, she found time to ask questions, to listen, and to act to the benefit of colleagues and the Museum.

She is very much missed.
