Brighton Marathon 2024 · 7 April 2024 ·

Our brilliant eco-school is fundraising to cover its roof with solar panels. We want to reduce our carbon footprint and work towards a more climate-friendly future. We also want to spend more money on our children's education and less on bills.

Story

I'm a governor at Jubilee Primary School in Hackney and I'm running the Brighton marathon this year (in a sun costume) to help Jubilee go solar!

We'd like to cover our large south-facing flat roof with 135 solar panels. We estimate this will produce around 40% of our electricity needs, reducing our annual carbon emissions by 10 tonnes and saving us between £13,000-£23,000 on energy bills every year. The saving on energy bills would be transformative for our school budget, allowing us to spend more directly on children’s education.

Building and installing the solar panels will cost about £60,000. There is grant funding available to cover two thirds of the cost conditional on us fundraising the the balance. Very grateful for any contribution!
